Ranfurly Shield – Locked up for summer

Locked up for summer – Hawke’s Bay Magpies

What a season the Hawke’s Bay Magpies have had. Making their way from the Bunnings NPC Championship in 2020 to the Premiership in 2021 is no easy feat – but the black and white team did us proud, right up to the very last second.

2021 brought challenges with alert level changes around the global pandemic – Auckland, Counties Manukau and North Harbour were unable to play matched after week two, and were not eligible for the 2021 finals series.

The Magpies hosted Tasman for the Bunnings NPC Semi-final at McLean Park on November 13th, and every second of the match had us on the edge of our seats. The team played a smart second half, but Tasman were able to sneak their way into the final.

The team can be proud to have locked the Ranfurly Shield up for the rest of the season, and for their efforts in their first round after a promotion to the Premiership.
